Mooy, 26, made the move from Melbourne City to the Manchester version less than 12 months ago, before a dream loan spell with the Terriers where he won the club’s Player of the Season.

The Australian midfielder also won a host of accolades such as being named in the EFL Championship Team of the Year, while he got married in the week prior to the play-offs final.

The Sydney-born star is now hot property with his agent Paddy Dominguez meeting with his parent club this week to weigh up his options, with reported interest from a raft of Premier League clubs.

Mooy spoke to Manchester City TV ahead of his flight to Australia for Socceroos duty reflecting on an amazing 12 months.

“When I first knew I was going to Huddersfield we looked into everything about the club and where they finished last year, it was 19th,” Mooy said.

“I was just trying to think, play as many games as I can and if they stay up then that’ll be alright.

“To go on to make the play-offs, go through all the play-offs and win the finals, I could never imagine it.

“It’s been the perfect year.”

Barely five years ago, Mooy’s career was at a crossroads after deciding to leave Europe after a fair spell with Scottish club St Mirren, whom he’d joined after never making the grade at English outfit Bolton.

Mooy was one of the Western Sydney Wanderers’ first signings upon their introduction to the A-League.

“When I went back from Scotland I always had in my head I wanted to come back to Europe,” Mooy said.

“That was my goal as the years went on in the A-League, as I think it’s difficult to get out of Australia, over here they don’t really appreciate the standard that much.

“I just went and kept trying to improve my game and lucky enough Manchester city took a punt on me.

“I’m so grateful they gave me an opportunity to come back to Europe.”
