The Huddersfield Town star becomes the first player to claim the award two years in a row.

Mooy beat out fellow nominees Tom Rogic, Danny Vukovic and Milos Ninkovic.

Speaking with HTTV, the Socceroo said he was ecstatic to be acknowledged so strongly by his peers.

“It’s a big award and I am really honoured,” Mooy said.

“Lots of talented players in Australia could have won it. I was lucky I was in a good team last year who got promoted and I think that helped a lot. It’s a special award.

“It’s because the players vote as well which is why it means so much to me. I am really proud and thankful to my teammates, my family and my coaches for helping me. I wouldn’t have won it without them.”

Mooy has enjoyed a stellar period in Europe which he said had inspired him take his game to a new level.

“Definitely coming back over to Europe which is classified as stronger league had definitely helped me improve and just keep going and seehow far I can go,” he said.

And despite so many highlights, Mooy was quick to state his biggest moment to date.

“Definitely the promotion,” he said.

“It was an amazing day and one that doesn’t happen to everyone. It’s very special moment in my career and I am glad that I was part of it.”

And as Australia’s World Cup hopes hang in the balance, Mooy said he would be doing all he could to help the Socceroos make it to Russia in 2018.

“I am just focusing on trying to play well and win those games so we can qualify,” he said.

“It’s a bit harder now but we can do it definitely and I look forward to them soon.

“That (the World Cup) is a big dream of mine and I am sure every kid goring up to play in a World Cup and it’s possible for me to do that. Just keep chasing my dreams and hopefully keep going and it happens.”
