The 19-year-old Australian midfielder, who has been dubbed a future Socceroos star, exclusively spoke with au.fourfourtwo.com whilst back in Sydney recently and revealed he had decided to turn down a new contract offer from the Trotters.

Mooy had been a regular for Bolton's reserves side last season, scoring several goals and winning much praise from the club's staff, but he couldn't break into the first-team.

"I'm not going back to Bolton," Mooy said. "They offered me a contract but I wasn't really happy with it.

"I'm going to trial for a few clubs in Holland, Italy and Germany."

Mooy wouldn't disclose the names of those clubs, but acknowledged the decision was a big risk.

"I didn't see myself breaking into the first-team (at Bolton) anytime soon," he said. "So I'm going to take a risk and try somewhere else."

Recently, several young Australians have secured contracts in the Netherlands including Socceroo prospects James Holland, Tommy Oar and Nikita Rukavytsya.

Mooy continued: "Everyone's been saying in Holland it's a good way to learn because everyone over there passes the ball around, it's not like everything's about results like in England.

"They try to teach the youngsters how to play. In England it's more, it doesn't matter how you play as long as you get the results."

Mooy, who was called up for a Socceroos camp last year for the Ireland friendly, said he'll be heading over to Europe in the first week of July.

In the meantime, he claimed he was maintaining his condition and said he'd never felt closer to full fitness.

Mooy scored one of the Young Socceroos' two goals at last year's disappointing FIFA Under-20's World Cup campaign in Egypt.

The youngster was also named player of the tournament at the prestigious Terborg Toernooi in May 2009.
