Aaron Mooy says the Socceroos will take the confidence they’ve gained from their opening two matches into Tuesday’s make or break clash with Peru in Sochi.
Australia need to beat the side ranked 11th in the world on Wednesday morning (AEST) and hope France beat Demark to stand a chance of reaching the round of 16.
Even so, the Socceroos were unfortunate to suffer a close loss to the French before their 1-1 with the Danes in Samara on Saturday.
“We have to take the confidence from that,” Mooy told FFA TV. “We can still improve and get better, but we put in two good performances and we all believe in the system.
“We watch all the games in the tournament and Peru look like a really good team, there’re ranked quite high up and it’s not a coincidence that their ranking is so high.
“We just have to focus on winning the game, that’s all we can do. It’s not in our hands but if we win our game hopefully god is looking down on us.”

Mooy played at the highest level last season and was a key member of the Huddersfield Town side which avoided relegation from the Premier League.
The 27-year-old has carried his form onto the international stage, producing two assured performances in midfield alongside captain Mile Jedinak.
Mooy isn’t one for talking up his own performances but is enjoying the team environment at his first World Cup.
“I don’t like talking about myself but I’m enjoying it definitely.
“I’m very proud to be here and I’ve loved being on the pitch. It’s always been a dream of mine, so I just want to soak it all in, enjoy it as much as I can and help the team as much as I can.”
