Rooney started a game for United for the first time under David Moyes in Monday's 0-0 Premier League home draw with Mourinho's side, and the Old Trafford faithful made it clear they want the striker to stay at the club. 

The 27-year-old - who is reportedly keen to join Chelsea - responded with a lively display in an otherwise lacklustre game.

Chelsea had two bids for the England international rejected in the close-season, and Mourinho indicated last week that a third offer would be made after Monday's fixture.

But, speaking after the game, the Portuguese revealed that he feels Rooney's desire to leave the champions may have been quelled by the support he recieved from United's fans throughout. 

"I think this club (Manchester United) must be a very a special club because when the player wants to leave the club they support him," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"They support him all the way, so I think this is a very special club with special fans and I think probably now he decides that he wants to stay.

"If he makes that decision we will be the first to respect that and to say it's over.

"It (a third bid) depends on his reaction and feelings, if now he doesn't want to leave, we are out of (the pursuit)."
