Cristiano Ronaldo, Emmanuel Adebayor, Mesut Ozil and Kaka were among those lauded by Mourinho as Madrid cut the difference to Primera Division leaders Barcelona back to seven points.

Kaka gave Madrid the lead early before Ronaldo, a day after his 26th birthday, added two more goals before the break to give his side a 3-0 half-time advantage.

Those goals ended a mini-goal drought for the Portugal international, who had failed to score in his previous four appearances - his worst run since joining Madrid - and also saw him reach 50 league goals in just 51 appearances for the Spanish giants.

When asked about the former Manchester United man, Mourinho said: "Like I've said, even if Ronaldo doesn't score again he would still have had a fantastic season.

"He always plays to the best of his capabilities and ambitions, he gives everything for the team."

Sociedad pulled a goal back midway through the second half following an Alvaro Arbeloa own goal, but the home side wrapped up a convincing win when Adebayor made it 4-1 late on.

Adebayor, who also scored against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey in midweek, was given his first start against Sociedad in place of Karim Benzema and enjoyed a fine match.

Mourinho said of the on-loan Manchester City man: "Adebayor played very well, the same as Karim against Sevilla.

"Now we once again have two strikers in good condition with different characteristics.

"After Karim played 80 minutes against Sevilla, and taking into account that he has a game coming up with his national team, we decided to give an opportunity to Adebayor and he showed why he is here. We're happy with both of them. This situation is perfect."

Mourinho also hailed the performances of some of his other players, including German international Ozil who is having a superb first season at Madrid.

"He (Ozil) will be a fantastic player for Real Madrid for 10 years. He has won us all over, fans and team alike," said the Portuguese.

Mourinho added: "Kaka had a very good hour. Lass (Diarra) is one of those 13 or 14 players who could easily be starters. (Ezequiel) Garay also played well in defence. Marcelo's return also helped.

"We were able to make rotations, win with ease and play well for much of the time."

Despite the triumph, Madrid still have a mountain to climb to get back into the title race with Barca looking unstoppable at the summit.

Pep Guardiola's reigning champions broke a 50-year-old Primera Division record in recording a 16th successive league win with their 3-0 triumph over Atletico Madrid.

Mourinho has not given up on the title, but if it is to be Barca's year again, the former Inter Milan coach does not want his team to make it easy for the Catalan club.

"If the team do their jobs well then we can go into the summer break with our heads high even if we are second," he said.

"What's important is that we don't give away the championship. Mathematics still say it is possible for us to win."
