Mourinho – who was in charge at Chelsea from 2004 to 2007, leading them to two Premier League titles, their first since 1955 – was officially unveiled to the media as the club's new manager on Monday, after signing a four-year contract.

The charismatic Portuguese coach left Chelsea after reportedly falling out with Abramovich, but a mutual decision to part company then, has paved the way for Mourinho's Stamford Bridge return, and he is positive they will work together again with success.

The 50-year-old has enjoyed stints at Inter and Real Madrid since leaving Chelsea, but said he was delighted to return to a club he loves. He also dubbed himself "the happy one" in reference to his comment when he initially took over at Chelsea, that he was "a special one", a quote that is often referred to by the press.

He said: "I am the happy one. I describe myself as a very happy person. I already love the club. Before I was arriving (in 2004), I had to build an emotional relation and know how to love the club.

"This time it is a new kind of feeling because it is the first time I am arriving at a club where I love it. I love it already."

When quizzed about reports of a messy fall-out between himself and Abramovich, he said: "That is not true. I read and I keep listening that I was fired, I was sacked, we had a complete break of relationships. That was not true.

"The decision was for both of us, but it was a mutual agreement. It was a sad moment. (But) only because it was only a mutual agreement and not a break of the relation is the only reason I am here.

"I can say (in) my professional life and the owner, his career as his owner, we are probably in the best moments of our career. We are ready to work together again and with much better conditions this time, to succeed and have what this club wants, stability."

Mourinho was adamant that he would not rest on his laurels at Chelsea and knows that high standards will be expected of him and his team immediately.

"I didn't choose for my career, a comfortable position (at Chelsea), returning to a house because I was happy and I was successful and the fans love me," he said.

"I am coming from exactly the opposite perspective. I think I have more responsibility, I think the expectations are higher because people know what I can deliver.

"I want to be respected by what I did in the past. I appreciate that very, very much but I want to be loved from what I do from now. The fans can be sure that I come here to give my best and to try and reach success.

"I think I am still very young as a manager and it feels like the beginning of a new period. Do I have a different personality? No. Definitely no. But I have a different approach and a different look of things."
