Cahill had a slow start to this season after a foot injury but has been re-invented by Moyes as a front man for Everton's injury-hit squad.

And the Socceroo bounced back to form by netting the winners in December against Manchester City and Middlesbrough.

Speaking to evertonfc.com, Moyes said: “Tim has done a really good job for us in the last few weeks.

"He has relished playing up front and maybe that’s the reason he has come back into top form again - he’s enjoying playing with a little bit more freedom.

“It’s giving him the opportunity to attack more and it’s released him from the job he’d had to do before.

“We couldn’t be happier with him. I’d go as far as saying his performances have been the best from centre-forward that we have had this season. His effort has been tremendous.”

Moyes admitted Cahill had struggled for form earlier this season after surgery on his foot

He added: “Maybe it took him a bit longer than we expected to get over the injury. But he’s looking sharp and working hard.

"The way he goes about his job has been pleasing to see. I have always thought that Tim had the talent to play as centre-forward. I’m not surprised he has done so well in that role.”

Cahill could continue upfront this weekend, when Everton host Hull City at Goodison Park in the English Premier League.
