The Australian rose high to head in Leighton Baines' corner to give the Toffees the points and move them up into ninth.

Moyes told BBC after the game: "We know that he's always come up with important goals for us at Everton. That's what he's done over the years.

"He's done it today because it was an important goal and it could be the difference of being at the top end of the league and the bottom end."

Elsewhere overnight, Mark Schwarzer's Fulham were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa at Craven Cottage, with the Aussie stopper perhaps disappointed with his effort at saving Gabriel Agbonlahor's opener.

Nick Carle got another start for Crystal Palace and played the full 90 minutes as the financially-troubled Eagles defeated Peterborough 2-0.

In England's League One, there were debuts for Aussie pair Dean Heffernan at Huddersfield and Shane Lowry at Leeds United.

Lowry, who only joined Leeds on loan from Aston Villa early in the day on Saturday, started and played 71 mintues as the Whites defeated Colchester 2-0.
