EVERTON manager David Moyes has warned against expecting too much, too soon from on-loan striker Jo despite his stunning start with the Toffees.
The £18million-rated Brazilian, who moved from Manchester City in the January transfer window, scored twice on his debut in the 3-0 victory over Bolton.
However, last weekend's FA Cup tie against Aston Villa meant he was immediately sidelined as he was ineligible for the competition.
He returns to the squad for tomorrow's match against Newcastle at St James' Park with his manager trying to play down the impact of those two goals.
"I don't want everyone to expect too much from him because he found it difficult at Manchester City for six months of the season," said Moyes.
"It is certainly not going to turn and everything be great for him here, even if it looked that way in his last game.
"In the first few days he came here I could see why he wouldn't be pushing for a starting place anywhere.
"But I think the longer I have gone on I have started to see why he is a player with such a value.
"We would have liked to have taken it steady. A lot has been said about him after his two goals so I hope he can do it again.
"You would hope he would be champing at the bit - he scored two goals and then had to sit out the next game because he is cup-tied.
"Hopefully we will see that much more from now until the end of the season."
Having struggled for strikers for the last couple of months, the manager's options are improving up front.
Louis Saha is set to travel with the squad and possibly claim a place on the bench having not played since November 30 because of a hamstring problem.
However, Moyes now finds his problems have switched to midfield.
Suspension rules out Tim Cahill - as well as right-back Tony Hibbert - while Marouane Fellaini (back), Leon Osman (stomach) and Steven Pienaar (hamstring) are unlikely to feature.
Moyes was philosophical about having arguably his best player this season on the sidelines.
"Suspensions come and go and it is part of life," added the Everton boss, who also has to decide who fills Hibbert's place.
Lars Jacobsen has declared himself ready to step into the breach after a nightmare first six months of a one-year contract.
The Denmark defender dislocated a shoulder while on international duty just two weeks after signing for Everton and has yet to make his debut.
"If the manager wants me to play, I'll be ready to play," said the 29-year-old.
"It would mean a lot to me. I've been here for over half a year now so, of course, it is something that I would like to do very soon."
Moyes, however, will consider all his options.
"Lars has come on fine. He has been a bit unlucky with his injury and I need to make a decision whether to play him or not," he added.
"Phil Neville can play right-back, so can Phil Jagielka. Lars is in contention as well."
