The Everton manager was recognised for the way he guided Everton to fifth spot in the Premier League last season, and although the Scot was delighted with the accolade, he thought others - namely Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson - should have been in front of him.

He said: "It is always great when you win anything but I am more keen on winning team awards.

"This was a team award really because the points total we got last year and the success we had was the reason I got the award.

"I was manager of the year but when you see Sir Alex winning the Champions League and the Premier League I am slightly embarrassed that he didn't get it.

"If I was voting I would have voted for Sir Alex but nevertheless I am delighted and really pleased to receive the award.

"We have worked really hard to get into lofty positions in the last few years and we pushed hard last year to try and be fourth and I think people do recognise that."

Everton have to wait until Monday for their Premier League meeting with Wigan at the JJB Stadium.

Toffees striker Ayegbeni Yakubu has scored three Premier League goals in four matches against the Latics - and Moyes is hoping for another on Monday night.

The Nigerian claimed all three goals while playing for his old club Middlesbrough and Moyes is confident he can add to that impressive record for the Merseyside outfit as well.

Yakubu ended a nine-match scoring drought with the equalising goal against his former side in last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Moyes added: "I think when he starts to get more opportunities we are confident that the Yak will put them away."
