Mullen was named in the final 21 man squad by Young Socceroos head coach Jan Versleijen earlier today, the 19 year old having received the news last night.

"I couldn't be happier. I'm very excited at the moment. It has been two and a half years of hard work and now it's all coming off and I'm very excited to be going to Egypt," Mullen said.

"It's the news that I've been waiting for, so to get it is a big relief and obviously I'm very excited."

Adding to his relief of making the final cut was that Mullen missed almost three months of football and training due to a hamstring injury, which he suffered while on a European tour with the Young Socceroos back in May.

Determined not to miss out on being part of the tournament that he had worked so hard to get to, Mullen admitted the setback had played on his mind leading up to the announcement of the squad.

"It (the injury) was in the back of my mind and that's why I wanted to get back playing as fast as I could, but maybe pushing it too fast were some of the reasons why I actually reinjured it again, but I'm just happy to be fit and selected in the squad," Mullen said.

"If I'm fit, doing well and get my chance, then hopefully I can be playing an important role in the team, and helping the boys get past the group stage."
