The 26-year-old former Western Sydney Wanderers defender says the arrival of new coach Mike Mulvey was a large reason for his decision to sign with the Gosford outfit.

With pre-season starting in early June, Clisby can’t wait to get going and has already met with Mulvey and Head of Football Nick Montgomery.

“I’ve already had the opportunity to visit the club and from the first moment Mike, Monty and the whole club have been very welcoming," Clisby said.

"I was shown around the training complex and very impressed with the facilities.

“Once I heard that Mike Mulvey was going to be appointed Head Coach I was very interested. I’ve got a few mates throughout the A-League who have played under him and they all have nothing but positive things to say.

"We’ve seen how successful he was at Brisbane – with him coming to the Mariners it’s a really exciting prospect for the club.

“I wish pre-season started tomorrow to be honest. Mike’s building a great squad, we’ve got plenty of time to gel and it’s something I am really excited to be a part of.

"I’m at a point in my career where I should be hitting peak form and I cannot wait to go out there and prove to everyone what I’m capable of.".

The Mariners will be keen to bounce back after a disappointing 2017/18 saw them finish bottom of the A-League.

Clisby is an experienced left or centre back known for overlapping runs which offer an outlet in attack.

Just three shy of 100 A-League games, his move reunites him with former Wanderers and Melbourne City teammate, Jacob Melling.

Mulvey welcomed the arrival of Clisby.

“Left-sided players are hard to come by and we are delighted to have Jack joining the Mariners this season,” Mulvey said.

“The Mariners have been fortunate enough to admire the work of Josh Rose in that position for many seasons who leaves big shoes to fill."
