Victory won with the decider against Newcastle Jets with a 9th minute goal by Kosta Barbarouses, which stood despite being offside.

While Muscat said he hadn't seen replays of the goal he was effusive in his praise for the courage of his troops which saw the club lift it's 4th championship title.

"The amount of adversity and challenges and obstacles that we had to jump has been phenomenal," Muscat said post-match.

"And I don’t think it’s been highlighted enough, because I tend not to bring it up or talk about it – it’s just perceived as excuses. Something I’m not really comfortable with, making excuses.

"So instead we just stared the challenges down one by one and got ourselves to a point where towards the back of the season we got some continuity, and belief started building. As the season come to a close we were just getting stronger and stronger.

"To come from fourth, I understand that hasn’t been done before, and win an away Grand Final – it’s not easy either – but the way we’ve stared down them hurdles, you know, can’t speak highly enough of (goalkeeper and MOTM Thomas) Lawrence and his teammates. Outstanding effort."

He added: "The fact that we’ve done it so hard, travelling away to Sydney and away to Newcastle to reach this pinnacle – outstanding effort and one that shouldn’t be underestimated

A third of the way through the season some fans were booing Muscat and calling for his sacking. Few, if anyone, expected it to end like this.

"If you find the issues through analysis and brutal honesty – you can find solutions," he said. "That’s what we’ve done and – yeah, football’s a funny game."

But Muscat seemed genuinely surprised when told Jets coach - and his former mentor - Ernie Merrick, had been less than flattering about the way Victory won the match.

After saying his only response was that it wasn't worth a response, Muscat took a dig at the tactics employed by the Jets.

"I hadn’t see it (the goal)...Sorry I’ve just been out celebrating," he said. "I haven’t had a chance to look at the footage. Still looking for a couple of balls – balls in the air that long tonight. Difficult night for us to deal with.

"Like I said (Friday) Newcastle scored a lot of goals this year and there’s two teams with different attacking philosophies.

"But it was just difficult for us tonight to get the ball down because it was kicked in the air every opportunity. There might have been more headers than passes if the stats come out. We were prepared for it and if that’s the way the game was going to be played we just deal with it – it’s not a problem."
