Victory were dealt their fourth loss of the season to Adelaide United last week and Muscat felt his team was hard-done-by.

Their upcoming opponents Brisbane Roar have also had a difficult season so far, however the Victory boss was solely focused on his own men getting a result on Sunday.

Despite experience testing times at Victory as a player and assistant coach, Muscat felt it was a pointless exercise to compare them.

“I haven’t really thought about it, it’ll be me looking back and it’ll be a waste of energy,” he said.

“I’m certainly embracing the challenge, it’s a good challenge and all my energy has been about giving everybody the best opportunity to perform better this week.

“We’re in an environment where everybody’s got an opinion and rightly so. My sole focus throughout the week has been on performing better for longer and being consistent.

“I’m not looking back to last weekend and I’m not thinking about the derby.

“Everybody’s got to take responsibility, not just a few players.”

Victory have suffered another blow with Mark Milligan out with a hamstring injury, however Muscat said it wasn’t severe.

“Millsy is already running and he’s ticking off all the boxes, we’ll just keep persevering and working hard with him,” he said.

“It’s (the injury) been the story of the campaign so far and no weeks are alike, let alone seasons. This season is unique for a number of reasons and has thrown up some different challenges to previous ones.

“It hasn’t been about articles, history or challenging times, it’s purely been about performance.”

Muscat said Victory's 3-2 win over Wellington Phoenix in Round 9 gives him faith they can turn their season around.

He added: “We go back only a fortnight ago and there is evidence we can perform better and that’s what we’re trying to do tomorrow night.”
