After the 28-year-old enjoyed a stellar season with Victory in the 2013/14 A-League campaign, it was officially announced on Monday the Socceroo would be returning after stints in Belgium, Saudi Arabia and China.

Muscat was excited for Troisi’s return, but was also ambitious to sign more players before the start of the upcoming A-League season. Victory currently have two visa positions to fill and find themselves in a very good position with a strong squad.

“I’ve been in contact with James throughout the last couple of years and more so over the past six weeks when the opportunity arose. From the football club’s perspective, we jumped at it,” Muscat said.

“He’ll offer us something different to what we’ve currently got in the group, he enjoyed his time here as he stated. We look forward to getting him fit and getting a smile back on his face and enjoying his football.

“We still want to add to the squad, but who in their right mind wouldn’t say they’re own squad is worthy of challenging this season? It would be almost admitting defeat before you start.

“Based on the personnel we’ve got at the moment and how we’re travelling this season. I’m fairly happy with the way things are going.

“We want to bring some players in, reinforce and create more competition for places. I’ve been around long enough to understand you get that serious competition for places and you get the best out of people.”

Victory are now flying off to  to lock horns with Newcastle Jets in the Round of 32 of the FFA Cup at Broadmeadow on Wednesday night.

They have enjoyed good wins in the pre-season so far, knocking off European giants Juventus and Atletico Madrid in the past fortnight.

Victory have a clean bill of health heading into the match against the Jets and while Mitch Austin went down after clashing with Emiliano Velazquez early in the game against Atletico, Muscat deemed him as fit to play.

Despite Victory naturally having a certain level of familiarity with Newcastle, Muscat said it was no easy task to knock them off.

“We haven’t seen much of Newcastle this season, so from my perspective it’s a question of are they going to set up the same? They’ve got some new faces and we ask we’re they’re at in their pre-season,” he said.

“We’ll concentrate on ourselves and we’ve seen some real progression. Over the nine days against Juventus and then Atletico, I’ve seen some progression that pleased me, so we’ll be looking to make some more progress and improve the way we’re playing.”
