Muscat was linked with the vacant coaching position at Urawa after Takafumi Hori - the coach who led the Diamonds to the 2017 Asian Champions League title - was sacked on April 1.

Urawa currently sit 17th in the J-League, one spot ahead of another former ACL champion - last-placed Gamba Osaka - following their winless start to the season.

Should the Victory boss take the reigns of the J-League club, he'd reunite with Andrew Nabbout, who made his full debut for Urawa in the J-League Cup overnight.

Yahoo Japan reported that club officials were looking at Muscat as a potential replacement, after closely following his side's performances against Kawasaki Frontale in Melbourne Victory's ACL campaign.

Whether Victory's 6-2 loss to Ulsan Hyundai will put a dampener on any rumoured interest remains to be seen.
