Pressure is mounting on Muscat after Victory succumbed to their eighth defeat of the season, going down 2-1 to Brisbane Roar on Friday night.

The AAMI Park home crowd booed the coach every time his face appeared on the big screen. Many fans of the Big V made their grievances known on social media.

Muscat - the club's inaugural captain and favourite son - coached Victory to the Premiership-Championship-FFA Cup triple in 2015.

Now in the last year of his contract, and under pressure, the former defender said he is not fixated on contract talks.

“It’s probably not a question for me, it’s not a focus,” Muscat said post match.

“I’m comfortable just working tirelessly to make sure we give ourselves the best opportunity to be successful.”

 

 

 

 

 

Muscat said Victory started the first five minutes well against Roar, however Massimo Maccarone blasted a ball into the back of the net after just seven minutes.

The second came from Brett Holman and despite James Troisi pulling a goal back in the second-half, Muscat believed they contributed to their own downfall.

“You’ve got to look back and individually take responsibility for our actions," he said.

“I’ve said to the players ‘don’t shirk the responsibility, go and watch the first half’ because that’s the mirror, have a look at it and it’s unacceptable.

“There’s no excuse for that first-half performance, it wasn’t good enough, it’s not acceptable and it needs to be addressed.”

Victory have a short turnaround and now shift their focus to the start of their 2018 Asian Champions League campaign where they face Ulsan Hyundai at home on Tuesday night.
