Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou said he was proud of his team after they picked up three precious points by defeating UAE 2-0 on Tuesday night, and he picked out defender Trent Sainsbury for particular praise.
PROUD ANGE
“Very proud of the players, it was a challenging 10 days for us,” Postecoglou told Fox Sports after the win.
“We always know at home we’re a dominant team. We worked awfully hard, we pressed the way we wanted to and created opportunities.
“And we deserved the victory.”

SAINSBURY A “PRECIOUS” STAR
“With guys like Trent, I rate him very highly. And we’ve got to treat him like he’s someone precious for us.
“I didn’t think on a heavy ground over there (in Tehran) would do him any good. Him and Brad Smith ideally we’d want them fit and they could play both games.
“And we kinda knew over there (against Iraq in Tehran) it’d be a hard slog. For guys like that we want to keep them for the second game and Trent was outstanding.
“He organised everything really well and he’s such a composed player.”

LECKIE AND SMITH
"They (Leckie and Smith) can literally match it with anyone in the world on Lecks and Smithy when they’re firing, they can go with anyone. And it’s hard to stop because they’re relentless.
“They were both good tonight and I’m pleased for Lecks, that’s a couple of goals (in the last 10 days) and he’s getting reward.”
