Andrew Nabbout says Newcastle want to make teams "scared" when they come to McDonald Jones Stadium to play the Jets.
Newcastle host Wellington at home this weekend. The Jets are on high, sitting in second on the ladder, and out to keep pressure on leaders Sydney FC with another victory.
Nabbout believes making their home ground "a fortress" is vital.
"We want to make this place a fortress and I think we have," the forward said.
"In the last two games we've picked up maximum points here and I said earlier on that these three home games were vital in our run towards the end of the season. We want teams to be scared when they come here.
"With the crowds that we've had in the last couple of weeks, breaking that 12,000 barrier - it's unbelievable for us and gives us a huge boost. Hopefully those crowds only keep increasing and it becomes even tougher for teams to come here.
"Three points is the bare minimum this week."
Newcastle are six points behind the Sky Blues but Nabbout insists his team are not keeping an eye on the table.
"We're aiming to be in the top three, top four," the former Melbourne Victory man said.
"That was our aim at the start of the season. We're in there at the moment but it's only going to be tougher as the season goes through. But we're not too focused too far on the future."
The last time the Jets and Phoenix met the Kiwi club were beaten 3-0 in the Hunter.
The 25-year-old feels Wellington will have revenge on their minds.
"We really put a few past them last time and we really dominated the game," he said.
"They're going to come out and making sure it's not going to happen again. It's going to be a good spectacle for everyone.
"They've got a good front four. it's going to be a good challenge for our back four and I think we'll do well.
"It's just another chance to prove against whoever comes up agains us that we're ready."
