Andrew Nabbout has shot to stardom this season, but after plying the hard yards to get to this point he's still focused on improving every chance he gets.
At the start of this season, let alone when he was released from both Melbourne Victory and a Malaysian Super League club, the 25-year-old would never have dreamed that he could playing in a World Cup.
How quickly things change in football.
Now Nabbout seems likely to earn a place in Bert van Marwijk's 23-man squad. The Dutchman highlighted pace as one of his preferred weapons and Nabbout believes his style of coaching is already helping him monumentally.
“Those little details: turning very quickly, looking over your shoulder, all that sort of stuff, as a pro footballer you tend to forget the smaller things sometimes concentrating on the big picture,” Nabbout told socceroos.com.au
“When they emphasise the small details it kind of makes the big difference much, much easier.
"I’ve learnt so much, fine-tuning little details in the game you never thought were important before.
“They make it important, they emphasise it, then it really shows in a game situation. Those details are very important and they’ve changed my game a lot already."
Nabbout isn't the only Socceroo excelling from van Marwijk's approach - although they're unlikely to tell you any different - with Aziz Behich similarly excited by the new education.
“Our sessions have been short, sharp sessions, the intensity has been high as all the boys have come off the back of a season so were all fit and healthy and ready to go,” Behich said.
“The the sessions have been great, with new coaching staff implementing new training systems but all the boys are on board and we’re just excited and raring to go.
“It’s ideal that we’re going to be together for a longer period of time this time. It’s a lot more time to prepare, we’ve hit the ground running from the first day.
“We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, we know what’s at stake in a few weeks’ time and we’ll be ready come game one.”
