After being released by Melbourne Victory and then sacked by his Malaysian club, Nabbout found himself club-less but the Jets gave the 24-year-old another opportunity in the A-League.

After scoring four goals in five games the winger is in scintillating form helping to lift Newcastle from cellar dwellers to top six contenders.

Nabbout admits that he is indebted to Newcastle for the belief they showed in him.

“There are not many clubs that will give players a second chance in the A- league,” he said. “The fact that they did I owe everything to them because they showed their faith in me to give me that chance.”

Nabbout’s previous spell with Melbourne Victory ended after three seasons due to an inability to get game time following the signings Besart Berisha and Fahid Ben Khalfallah.

After moving to Malaysia, Nabbout scored nine goals in 14 games and led the league in assists, but then the club sacked their Aussie import and brought in Brisbane Roar’s Henrique instead.

After overcoming those hardships, Nabbout said that his current success tastes even sweeter.

“This is massive for me to be honest,” he said. “Just to know what I went through and what I had to deal with in Malaysia every single day kind of made me a stronger footballer and coming back here and doing so well it’s a massive confidence boost for me.”

While playing in South East Asia Nabbout revealed that that he had to endure the constant threat of his livelihood being taken away from him.

“In Malaysia, they have no salary cap so they can just get rid of players and sign someone else in a heartbeat," he said. “ Every week we were getting told that we were going to get sacked. So I came at a cross roads. I told myself I can either let it affect me and keep getting angry. But, the path that I did take was to use it as motivation to play well every week and that gave me the lift that I needed to perform.”

One of the lessons Nabbout learnt over the last year was to never take anything for granted.

“When I was at Victory I got a little bit complacent because I thought I made it and that’s it that was the hard part done,” he said. “But I learnt the hard way. That the hard way is not making it that it’s about staying there. Being in that environment in Malaysia it’s made me appreciate the A-League more now that I’m back.

“I’ve just appreciated my time here so far. Every game I play I go out with a smile on face and enjoy it. Because football in Malaysia go to a point where I wasn’t enjoying my time and I’ve come back and it’s been a completely different world.”
