The Jets are flying high after only one loss in their previous six A-league games and  will be hoping to take that form into Sunday’s home game against the Wanderers.

In the most recent contests between the two teams, Tony Popovic's men hold the ascendancy with three wins and one draw in their previous four encounters.

However, Newcastle’s star player believes the home team can get the three points by playing to their strengths.

“We can dominate them in wide areas,” Nabbout told FourFourTwo.

“I know Tony Popovic likes to play a compact game and tries to hold out teams so he can catch them on the counter attack. Players like Mitch Nichols and Lachlan Scott are going to come out pressing and they are going try and dominate that midfield with the quality they have with the Spanish players.

“But we have to absorb their pressure and if we can penetrate in wide areas. We have the quality in our team that if we hold them out we can score goals, and hopefully win the game.”

The former Melbourne Victory player admits that while the Jets have done well this season, when it comes to playing consistently there is still room for improvement.

“We have to play for 90 minutes,” the 24-year-old said.

“Throughout the season we’ve had games where we start off slow, we have five or ten minutes where we switch off and concede goals especially against good teams like Melbourne Victory and Sydney.

“We have been able to dominate teams no matter who they are, but we have to turn those patches into 90 minutes.”

After years of on and off field drama the Jets find themselves in a stable situation and Nabbout feels they can aspire to more than just scraping into the top six.

“There is a buzz around the team,” he said. “Even during pre-season, we had a really good foundation set beforehand and bringing in a new coach especially being from Newcastle, the town was very excited about that.

“We’ve always had the quality and we always had the belief in ourselves. There was a good foundation set by the previous coaches and it gave us an extra boost at the start of the season to go and do well.

“We have enough quality in our team to make ourselves a top four side.”
