Naumoff's heart problem was only picked up in a routine medical prior to his transfer from Sydney to Spanish Segunda Division side Numancia.

It was so serious though that the winger was told he had to stop playing immediately...ending his promising career overnight at the age of just 20.

But in the year since, he has started work rebuilding his life with a new role in coaching, helped by Professional Footballers Australia who put this video together with him.

He is now currently part way through his B-Licence and coaching Rockdale and at Sydney Grammar.

Through the PFA Work Experience program, Chris spent a week at the FFA COE to gain some further coaching experience as part of the PFA Player Development Program.

It saw him link up with Tony Vidmar whose career was also hit by a heart defect which robbed him of a place in the Socceroos squad on the eve of the 2006 World Cup.

“Chris was dealt a devastating hand," said PFA Chief Executive John Didulica. "His resilience and positivity since has been remarkable and further illustrates his strength of character and serves as an example for all our members.

"Tony Vidmar was one of the first people to get in touch with Chris following the news of his forced retirement and his support since in allowing Chris the opportunity to spend the week gaining invaluable experience at the FFA Centre of Excellence speaks volumes for the person Tony is and the solidarity and empathy that exists between players.

"The PFA aspires to support its members throughout their entire journey as footballers and beyond and will continue to support Chris as he pursues his goal of becoming an outstanding coach."
