Despite a preparation thrown into chaos by the recent poor weather, the NBN Select Squad are still confident of a good showing against the Newcastle United Jets in the friendly scheduled for Wednesday night.
Dual coaches for the NBN team, Damien Smith and Peter McGuinness, have been left wanting with scheduled training sessions having to be cancelled due to poor field conditions.
"It’s been frustrating for both coaches and players,’ coach Damien Smith said. ‘Everyone in the squad are chomping at the bit to put in a good showing at this match but our hands have been tied with the weather, the poor conditions of grounds and the guys commitments to rescheduled regular season commitments to NBN State League matches and training."
Football Manager for Northern NSW Football David Smith shared the frustration of Damien Smith and his team at the poor preparation for Wednesday’s match. "I know Damien’s going into this match without the preparation he would want but I still think that he will be able to field a strong team to face the Jets,’ Smith said. We’ve had extraordinary conditions in recent weeks that have done no one any favours in their preparation for this match but I know that without exception the NBN players look forward to this opportunity and they will not disappoint."
The NBN Select Squad v’s Newcastle United Jets match is scheduled for a 7.30pm kickoff at Macquarie Fields, Lake Macquarie on Wednesday night July 4th. As a curtain raiser for the main match, an NBN/Jets Youth squad will play the Northern NSW Institute of Sport team, with kickoff at 5.30pm.
Admission is free.
