Tonight's inaugural derby dogfight at a sold-out Parramatta Stadium is looming as the perfect opportunity for either side to snatch their first three points of the season.

Necevski said Sydney FC will go into the match full of confidence after several astute substitutions against the Jets fuelled a strong fight back that fell just short of the equaliser.

“The second half against Newcastle was some of the best football we’ve played in a while,” Necevski said.

“The very positive sign is that we never gave up, we kept fighting. I think against the Wanderers we have to start like that and finish like that.

“If we can pick up where we left off against Newcastle and start strong and finish strong I don’t think Wanderers have a chance to keep up with us.”

The Sydney FC shot stopper is tipping a big game from Sebastian Ryall and another strong performance from Melbourne Victory import Fabio, but said the team’s defence will need to step up the concentration levels to stop leaking “silly goals”.

“We need to have that positive mentality and take the good things out of the Newcastle game and run with them,” he said.

“Concentration plays a big part and we want to be switched on and remain switched on for the whole of the game.”

Several Sky Blues’ players made the move across town and both teams are laying claim to insider knowledge that could turn the match. A virtual communications blackout between the two squads over recent days has underlined the importance of the clash.

“When Wanderers played their first couple of games there was a few texts towards them wishing them all the best and stuff like that but this week we haven’t really spoken with them,” said Necevski who is the final year of his contract.

“I think everyone’s just interested in the derby and we’ll unleash on each other on Saturday night. The derby is the match we’ve been looking forward to since Wanderers came into the picture.

“There’s been a lot of talk about the next big rivalry and it’s finally here. Now we want to get out there, do the job and get the three points.

"Getting that first win is going to be a massive result for us and then we get on with it. We’ll get that little bit of pressure lifted off our shoulders if we get the three points and then hopefully get on a roll.

“That first win is going to be like a breath of fresh air for us and from there we can carry on with the job.”
