Central Coast goalkeeper Ivan Necevski has revealed his daughter provided the inspiration for his penalty save in the weekend’s clash with Sydney FC.
Necevski was reinstated into the Mariners goal with regular number one Paul Izzo out suspended following a red card against Melbourne City.
The 37-year-old, in his fifth appearance of the season, made an impact with the save from Bernie Ibini’s 75th minute spotkick.
He immediately pointed to his family in the crowd, revealing the save was “for them”.
“My daughter came up to me and said ‘remember dad we were practicing penalties in the backyard, I taught you to save penalties’ so they were all really happy,” Necevski said.
“I didn’t expect Bernie to step up actually. We were studying during the week the video footage and it was Bobo.
“When Bernie stepped up, I had a feeling on Saturday for some reason that every I looked at pointed to go to my left.
“I decided to go to my left and it was the right decision.”

The start was Necevski’s first since December and he hopes he may be able to hang on to the number one shirt.
“The coaching staff said on the weekend is the reason why Izzo is doing so well is because I have been pushing him,” he said.
“We work hard together. There is a union and we respect each other and know only one keeper can play on the weekend.”
