Negredo was only called into the Spain party for their final two qualifiers against Armenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina due to injuries to David Villa and Fernando Llorente, but the Sevilla hitman has given Del Bosque some food for thought with a fine display in Zenica.

Making his first start up front for Spain having been handed his debut against Armenia on Saturday as a second-half replacement for the injured Fernando Torres, Negredo netted twice and also set up two other goals for David Silva and Juan Manuel Mata with brilliant passes in behind the Bosnia-Herzegovina defence.

Negredo's performance helped already-qualified Spain make it 10 wins out of 10 in Group Five, and it may also have boosted the 24-year-old former Real Madrid hitman's chances of going to South Africa.

"It was an important game for me. I was given the opportunity, I had to take advantage of it and I've done that. I've linked up well with my team-mates and I'm happy," said Negredo, who was pleased with how things went tonight compared to on his debut.

"It was all very rushed (against Armenia) and things didn't go for me, but today I've had the fortune to score two goals and I'm very happy for this day. Del Bosque has congratulated me and told me that I did a good job."

"Now I have to work very hard to be able to go to the World Cup. With hard work and humility I want to achieve it all," he added in AS.
