Germany coach Silvia Neid declared herself proud of her team as they became the first side in Women's World Cup history to successfully defend their title.
Germany defeated Brazil 2-0 in an exciting final with Birgit Prinz and Simone Laudehr scoring in the second half to secure the victory.
Goalkeeper Nadine Angerer was the hero for Germany as she saved a Marta penalty that would have put the Brazilians back on level terms had she scored.
That save also ensured Germany completed the tournament without conceding a single goal, the first time the feat has ever been achieved in World Cup history.
And Neid stressed it was the team's ability to work for each other that ensured they lifted the coveted trophy for a second successive tournament.
"The whole team worked well together and I am very proud of them," she said. "Brazil had more of the game in the first half but we were working as a team especially in defence.
"In the second half we scored at the right time and after Angerer saved the penalty and from then on I was sure we would not concede.
"We worked well together, there was a will not to concede any goals in the tournament.
"Everyone worked for each other and the result in this World Cup shows that it has worked well."
A disappointed Brazil coach Jorge Barcellos felt Germany punished his side for too many missed chances.
In an open first half the Brazilians had opportunities to score, most notably when Daniela headed wide after her first shot had struck the foot of the post.
But Barcellos believes his side's overall form throughout the tournament will ensure a bright future for the national team.
"It was a very tough game for us and we missed a lot of very good chances whereas Germany only had a few chances but they took theirs well," he said.
"This was especially important in the second half when we were one down and Marta missed such a critical penalty.
"But it's clear my players tried their best and I can only say I'm very sad with the result.
"The players are eager to win and that will help them play better in future."
