LUCAS Neill has warned Australian fans against expecting great things in tonight's friendly against Denmark in Johannesburg, believing the team are still a week away from being at their peak.
To see the Socceroos train overnight ...
Australia play their first friendly in South Africa on Tuesday, with the players still in the middle of a gruelling preparation camp which is designed to have them fully fit for the first match against Germany on June 13.
Neill is well aware that there is still another week of hard work to go and said that may mean the Socceroos are not at their best against the Danes, who arrived in South Africa on Saturday.
"I think we've got another hard week's training yet before we can say that we are match fit, very sharp, coping with the altitude, strong in the legs and strong in the lungs," said the Australian skipper.
"I think we're almost there, we've been pushed very hard, but we know we can be pushed more and we want to be pushed more."
The match is likely to see a stronger starting line-up than the match against New Zealand last week, with Scott Chipperfield and Luke Wilkshire expected to play and Mark Schwarzer to return from a thumb injury.
The only two players who have been ruled out of the game are Harry Kewell and Brett Emerton.
Coach Pim Verbeek said that while he would be happy for his side to get a win in the match, the result is secondary to the performance.
Verbeek added: "Hopefully they will be very tired at the end of the game and that will means that they would have had an extra push to get fitter and fitter all the time.
"We play to win, but if you ask me as coach, then I will say I will have other things as my priorities."
Australia return to Ruimsig Stadium on Saturday for their final warm-up match against the USA.
