According to UAE newspaper The National, the 33-year-old Australian defender has agreed to a one-year contract with the club who ran away with the Pro-League title last term.

Neill, who was released by Turkish club Galatasaray earlier in the European summer, had said before last week's friendly with Wales he was hoping to confirm his club future within the week.

There had been speculation linking Neill with the UAE and now The National has reported he will arrive in Abu Dhabi over the weekend to put pen to paper on the deal.

Ironically, Neill had ruled out a move to the Middle East in January during the Asian Cup, when he told reporters: "Too soon for Australia, too soon for the Middle East."

However, the Socceroo appears to have changed his mind and will join fellow Australian Mark Bresciano in the UAE Pro-League, after the former Lazio man joined Al Nasr last week.

Neill will fill Al Jazira's Asian Football Confederation spot as part of their 3+1 foreign player quota.

Al Jazira, who won the UAE title last term under Brazilian Abel Braga, are set to also unveil Franky Vercauteren as their new manager over the weekend after he guided Genk to the Belgian title last season.
