THE Socceroos will play a friendly against World Cup quarter finalists Paraguay at Sydney Football Stadium on October 9 - and most likely under a new coach, the FFA revealed today.
FFA Chief Executive Ben Buckley said that this match was ideal opportunity for Australian fans to hail the Socceroos for their World Cup campaign.
"This is a great opportunity to be part of the official welcome home for the Socceroos after the World Cup in South Africa," Buckley said.
"It will be the only time the national team will play in Australia for the rest of this year so I urge all Socceroos fans to get in early and get their tickets so they are not disappointed.
"It should be a fantastic match as Paraguay is a top quality opponent as shown by the fact the team reached the quarter finals of the World Cup before losing to eventual winners Spain.
"This exciting clash will give the Socceroos the chance to benchmark themselves against first class opposition as they prepare for the Asian Cup in Qatar in January and most likely with a new coach at the helm."
The Socceroos have previously faced Paraguay on four occasions; a three match series in 2000 in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and one match in 2006 in Brisbane, with the Socceroos holding the advantage with one win and three draws.
This will be the second time that the Socceroos will meet Paraguay at Sydney Football Stadium having previously met at the same venue on the June 9, 2000 when they played out a 0-0 draw.
The Qantas Socceroos are also scheduled to play Slovenia in Ljubljana August 11, Switzerland in St Gallen on September 3,Poland in Krakow on September 7 and Egypt in Cairo on November 17..
