The injury-plagued 32-year-old, who has managed only 38 appearances for Rovers since joining the club in August 2008, sustained the problem at Blackburn training in October.

Grella has spent the past 10 days in Aspetar's Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Qatar which was recommended to him by Socceroos team physio Les Gelis and also used by Australia team-mate Tim Cahill earlier this year too.

“I suffered a hip flexor injury with the final kick of a training session at Blackburn a few weeks ago,” Grella, who hasn't played for Australia since the 2010 World Cup, told Doha Stadium Plus.

“I spoke with the Australian team physio Les Gelis and he recommended that I come to Aspetar for treatment.

“Some of my Australian team-mates have been here and they spoke very highly of the facility.  I’m really pleased with the quality of the service and treatment here.”

Grella's goal is to get back to fitness to play for Blackburn who are struggling in the Premier League.

The Australian, who has only managed two appearances for Rovers this term, conceded returning to the national team wasn't the top priority as he seeks to return to fitness.

He added: “I miss playing for the national team. But what’s important for me right now is to get fit and play well for my club.”
