Kisnorbo, 30, comes out of contract at Elland Road at the end of this season after joining Leeds in 2009.

In Kisnorbo's first season at the club he won their Player of the Season award but his second term has seen him fail to make one appearance due to the Achilles injury with has threatened his career.

The Australian's injury troubles has presented Leeds with a dilemma over his contractual future, but Whites boss Simon Grayson said it's likely Kisnorbo will firstly earn a short-term deal to prove he's over the problem before any talk of a long-term deal begins.

“He’ll have all of pre-season with us and we’ll have things in place to make sure there’s a contract ready for him,” Grayson told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“He wants to stay, I want to keep him here, but as a football club we’ve got to make sure we cover ourselves.

“There’s no point in giving Paddy a two, three or five-year contract without him proving that he’s 100 per cent fit.

“He understands that and he’ll have five or six weeks in pre-season to get match-fit. I would think that (Leeds will offer him a short-term deal) to cover our backs and his back. He only needs to prove his fitness.”

The ex-South Melbourne defender has undergone rehabilitation in the United States and after a long battle with the injury could be given a chance to prove his fitness on the final day of the Championship season against QPR on Saturday.
