The 19-year-old midfield anchor will spend the 2012-13 Championship season with the Tractor Boys after completing the paperwork for the deal on Monday.

"Joining Ipswich on loan is a great opportunity for me and I'm really looking forward to challenging for a first-team place here," Luongo told the Ipswich Town website.

He later added on Twitter: "Happy to have things sorted at Ipswich. It should be a good experience for me at this great club. Looking forward to it!"

Luongo, who is familiar with Town technical director Brian Klug as he's a former Spurs academy coach, had revealed he was journeying to Suffolk on Monday via Twitter, before looking around the Portman Road facilities and completing the move later in the day.

The two-time Australia Under-20 international will train his new team-mates on Tuesday and could play in a friendly against Cambridge on Wednesday.

Luongo is expected to battle with Luke Hyam for a regular starting spot in midfield, with Ipswich short in that department following the exits of Lee Bowyer and Grant Leadbitter.

The teenager, who joined Tottenham in January 2011, has only made one first-team appearance for Spurs, coming in last season's Carling Cup loss to Stoke City where he missed a penalty in the shootout.

The Sydney-born youngster is eligible to also play for Italy and Indonesia, where his father and mother were born respectively.
