MELBOURNE Victory's major semi-final plans have been hit by yet another scheduling clash after the second leg was fixed just two days before an Asian Champions League match.
Melbourne's involvement in the Asian Champions League has already caused headaches with their final schedules, when the first leg of the major semi-final at Etihad Stadium was switched to Thursday.
Now FFA has confirmed that due to scheduling difficulties at Sydney Football Stadium and the Socceroos match against Indonesia, the second leg will not be held until the Sunday, just two days out from their date with Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma in the ACL.
Football operations manager Gary Cole said the club is completely miffed about why the game will be played on the Sunday.
"The scheduling we've just found out today from match day two, we play our game against Sydney on the Sunday in Sydney, and then have to play back-up here against Seongnam on the Tuesday night, you just sit and shake your head and you go, 'I'm not quite sure how we are going to do that'," he said.
While the Sydney Football Stadium is not available on the Saturday night due to Super 14 commitments, ANZ Stadium, which is also keen to host the Grand Final, is available for that match if needed.
Cole said it appears common sense has been foregone in this instance.
"It would have made sense for that game to be played on the Friday night or the Saturday," he said. "There's an international game on the Wednesday, and that's obviously come into effect.
"I believe Sydney Football Stadium's not available on the Saturday. I think if we rang Sydney now we'd probably get two or three stadiums on the Saturday that are not being used for rugby league.
"The question is why can't we play on the Saturday? We're disappointed about that."
Melbourne said they had spoken to both FFA and AFC about the fixturing, but that it appeared nothing would be done.
"If the AFC had been kind to us to start with, it would have been nice to have given us an extra day and play a few of those games on Wednesday nights," said Cole.
"On top of that the FFA, it's all about them and the broadcasters. It's been unkind to us. We've let everyone know as often as we can. We tried to reschedule the Beijing game to Australia, just to change that fixture over.
"Some of these people are a bit like me, they can't touch their toes."
