The Magpies are eight points away from reaching that mark with four games left and they also need only four points to secure top spot in English football's second tier.

Even though his team have achieved their primary aim of promotion to the Premier League, Hughton says they are focused on accomplishing further goals this campaign.

Ahead of tomorrow's trip to Reading, he told the club's website, nufc.co.uk: "We have set targets and objectives all season, the main one, of course, being promotion.

"Now that is achieved we move on to the title. But what I think would be nice would be to get 100 points. That would be a terrific achievement and is something we're very keen to do.

"It would be nice to crown the season as champions with that points tally."

Defender Jose Enrique looks set to return to the United squad for the trip to Berkshire after a virus while defender Tamas Kadar is out.

Hughton could decide to freshen up his team so the likes of Shola Ameobi, Joey Barton and Alan Smith will be hoping for recalls.

Young Reading centre-half Alex Pearce has hailed the influence of his more senior colleagues after impressing in the draw against Cardiff at the weekend.

"Millsy (Matt Mills) has been fantastic since he came in and it's been a pleasure to watch him play, I've learned a lot from watching him from the sidelines," he told readingfc.co.uk.

"It has been fantastic to have players like Zurab (Khizanishvili) and (Andy) Griffin around, you can talk to them during the game and they give good advice. It's great to have players like that."

Reading have no fresh injury concerns but will again be without Mills. The former Doncaster defender serves the second instalment of a four-match suspension but manager Brian McDermott will again be able to call upon fit-again duo Brian Howard and Jem Karacan.

Kalifa Cisse (thigh) could be involved while Ivar Ingimarsson (hamstring), Marek Matejovsky (stomach), Noel Hunt and Chris Armstrong (both knee) remain sidelined.
