Melbourne City's Nick Fitzgerald believes his team was stiff not to get something out of their first loss of the season against Sydney FC.
The undefeated Sky Blues came to AAMI Park last week and came away with a 1-0 win as both sides shared two shots on target.
City are now second on the table behind ladder-topping Sydney, however Fitzgerald said the mood was positive during the week.
They now look to bounce back against Western Sydney Wanderers in this Sunday’s remembrance round double header.
“I think we were the better team (against Sydney) and we should’ve got at least a point out of it,” Fitzgerald said on Wednesday.
“We take confidence from it against arguably the best team in the comp, we can stick with them for most of the game, to play the Wanderers on the weekend, it’s another tough game, but at home we’re hoping to get a result.
“We’ve seen Wanderers have sort of faded away in the second-half, I don’t think we’ve been great in the second-half either, it’s something we need to work on and make sure we bring that on Sunday.”
City have proved to be the league entertainers in the past two seasons, but have conceded the least amount of goals so far with just two going past Eugene Galekovic.
The City keeper said he was not getting complacent as he is currently first-choice in Warren Joyce’s side.
“I have to keep performing every week, every day at training, just like Dean Bouzanis is at training,” Galekovic said.
“He’s fighting for a spot like all the other players. There’s no guarantees in football, if you don’t perform you’re out and the coach has got that luxury of coping and changing because of the depth.
“It has been about not conceding goals and we’ve been good in large patches. We don’t give teams too many chances and it’s a massive benefit.”
