While some are asking if Sydney FC can remain undefeated, Sky Blues fans are more interested to know if the A-League's star player will sign a new contract.

In the off-season Ninkovic had a big money move to a middle eastern club blocked by Sydney's hierarchy.

With six goals and seven assists in the first 13 rounds, the Serbian is in career best form and with free agency looming, the classy attacker will have even more clubs in the hunt for his signature.

However, Ninkovic’s said his only focus at the end of the season was lifting silverware.

“Everyone asks me about me leaving but I still have six months of my contract left with Sydney FC,” he said. "I just want to play well. To help my teammates win the title after a long time. I will play the best I can until then and we will see after the season. Maybe I sign a new contract, maybe not. But we will see, at this moment I really don’t think about this.”

“Last year It was very, very difficult after this offer but if you think about that all the time, I’m sure that you can’t play good. But I left it behind me and I forgot about this.”

While Ninkovic admits that he is in form, the Serbian import denies his performances should be singled out.

“I don’t think that in this moment I am the best player in the A-League,” he said. “I play well but in this moment, we have a lot of good players in the A-League.

“Maybe this is my best season. I can’t remember when I played in the 13 games and scored six goals and seven assists. I knew this year was going to be better, much better than last year. I’m confident and I feel at this moment that I am playing very well. But all the team is playing well and that’s the reason I’ve scored many goals, because the whole team is playing well and we had a very good pre-season and that is the key.”

Along with Perth Glory’s Chris Harold and Melbourne Victory’s Marco Rojas, Ninkovic is the equal A-League assist leader with seven and the 31-year-old said his round 11 pass for teammate Filip Holosko was special.

“The assist against Perth Glory is one of the best,” he said. “Because in my career I have more assists than I score goals and I always like to give assists than to score goals and this is one of the best of my career.

Regarding his ability to put his teammates in scoring positions, Ninkovic said it was down to self-belief.

“It’s just a feeling,” he said.” “I can’t explain this. It’s just a feeling and confidence. If you have confidence – especially me if I have confidence I can do everything that I want to do on the pitch and without confidence it’s very, very hard to play any sport.”
