Serepisos last week cleared almost NZ$4m worth of debts to secure Phoenix's existence.

And the Nix owner is now looking to the club's future, revealing to the Sunday News plans which include a sponsorship deal which he said is close to being sealed and would cover the club's annual NZ$1m to NZ$1.5m losses.

β€œIt's with the lawyers at the moment – they're working the final negotiations,” Serepisos said.

"Once that's sealed it will put the club in the black, not the red. We're talking more than NZ$10 million over the next five years and we're hoping to have it tied up by the end of May."

Serepisos also moved to reassure Phoenix fans the club was working on improving its playing squad after finishing sixth last term.

"We have spots for about eight or nine players. Ricki (Herbert) and I are going to take our time viewing players. We're already looking,” he said.

"I don't want a repeat of last year, when we made a couple of wrong choices. We want to take our time and get it right.

"We're looking at players in Brazil and a couple in the UK, as well as scouting all New Zealand's best. The ambition has always been to win the A-League."

Serepisos also revealed he was looking into the prospect of the Nix playing one home match in Auckland next season.

Phoenix have successfully played games away from Wellington down in Christchurch in the past, attracting 19,258 and 14,108 fans to two matches in the past two seasons.

But A-League games haven't been played in Auckland since the failure of the New Zealand Knights in 2007.
