WELLINGTON Phoenix have recorded a 2-1 victory over fellow A-League outfit Brisbane Roar in their pre-season encounter in Hamilton on Saturday.
The Phoenix, who only fielded two of their All Whites contingent, scored twice in the opening half to take a healthy advantage into the break.
Paul Ifill put Wellington ahead on 17 minutes after a mistake by Brisbane, before new signing Dylan MacAllister doubled their lead with a long-range strike on 25 minutes.
Roar skipper Matt McKay pulled one back for the Queenslanders with a goal on 79 minutes.
The Phoenix, who face South American giants Boca Juniors in the New Zealand capital on July 23, meet Adelaide United on Friday in their next pre-season match.
Roar, who defeated A-League newboys Melbourne Heart 2-0 in pre-season a fortnight ago, will continue their preparations for the new campaign when they meet Everton next weekend at Suncorp Stadium.
