DWIGHT Yorke will not be playing A-League football next season after the former Sydney FC man failed to land himself a deal Down Under.
Yorke will now fly back to England and sign a fresh contract with Premier League club Sunderland.
The ex Manchester United star has spent the last couple of weeks in Australia and claims he was close to a contract with the Central Coast Mariners.
However, the Mariners have consistently denied that talks ever went beyond the very earliest stage.
Yorke told the Telegraph: "That would have been my ambition, to come back here.
"I felt this year would have been the year to come back and stamp my authority in terms of playing football and getting the football buzzing around Sydney again."
