Adelaide Oval has had a busy period over the past two-and-a-half months with nine AFL matches, with Port Adelaide to play Hawthorn at the venue on Thursday night, a week out for the Socceroos’ game.

Postecoglou has previously been vocal about the standard of Australian pitches, with Allianz Stadium and Suncorp Stadium receiving negative reviews in recent times.

Adelaide Oval has hosted A-League games in recent times, including the 2015-16 Grand Final.

The hardness of the oval’s surface was criticised after a 2014 match between Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory, but the pitch has been improved in recent times and was in good condition for last year’s 2018 World Cup qualifier when Australia played Tajikistan.

“We had a great experience here last time,” Postecoglou said. “Most importantly the pitch is looking in good condition which is great.

“With a big home town support which always helps, we’re looking forward to a big game.”

Football Federation Australia have been monitoring the standard of the surface in the lead-up to the game, such is Postecoglou’s desire for pitches suitable for passing football.

“That’s the reports I’m getting. We’ve had people out here on a weekly basis tracking the pitch,” Postecoglou said.

“The people here are working really hard and we’re hopeful come matchday it’ll be in a condition that suits us.”

The Australia squad will begin assembling in Adelaide late this week, with the bulk of the final 23-man group likely to arrive over the weekend.

The Socceroos will hold a family day at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, while Postecoglou will get the rare opportunity of almost a full week of training with the squad.

“We’re looking to the luxury of a few extra days in camp which we don’t usually get with a lot of the leagues already shut down,” he said.

“We get a couple of extra days training which is great.”
