Williams is part of an extended Socceroos squad for the World Cup qualifiers next month with the Middlesbrough man having decided to plump for the country of his birth.

In an interview with the Welsh media earlier this month, the defender said that he had had some great times with Wales and didn't regret playing for the under 21 side.

However, he told the Western Mail: "Once Australia showed a firm interest in me there was only one way it was going to go.

"I was born and bred in Australia, so it is natural that I should want to play for them.

"Pim told me all about his plans for the future and made it clear that I was going to be a part of them, so I was keen to get all the paperwork sorted as soon as possible. I can't wait to get involved for the first time."

Verbeek flew to England to speak to Williams after a match for loan club Burnley and later went on to praise the youngster for getting in touch to pledge his future to Australia.
