The Socceroos are overwhelming favourites to pass through their group stage qualifiers, but Osieck is not looking beyond their opening match with a side ranked just shy of 100 places below them in FIFA world rankings.

Australia's German coach, who recent returned from an 'informative' scouting tour of Thailand, insisted the Socceroos' opponents were a serious threat and his men would be affording full respect.

"You have to be ready, you have to be focused, you have to respect the other team – that's a fact," he said. "They have a good team and they have a good quality.

"My intent – and the boys are on the same page – is that we have direct focus on this game and we have no other thoughts.

"We need to get into this competition, we need to make a good start and we need to get our points.

"Every game has got its own challenges, so we'll just focus on one game and see how we go from there."

A day out from the campaign opener, Osieck said that he had whittled the contenders for a starting spot down to 13 from his 23-man squad, and that the final selection would be based purely on his impression of Australia's best available 11.

Frontman Brett Holman, returning to the squad after missing Australia's recent 2-1 win over Wales, was confirmed to start, but Osieck was otherwise reluctant to give specifics on his formation.

"It's no secret that Holman is one of the cornerstones of our team. I'm happy he is back and he looked very, very sharp yesterday despite the travel," said Osieck

"I don't reveal any secret when I say that he will be in the team if nothing unexpected happens."

Socceroos captain Lucas Neill echoed his coach's message of not getting too far ahead, but admitted that it would be a 'waste' not to convert the opportunity to make a down-payment on a third-consecutive World Cup Finals appearance.

"The expectation is from us. We've tasted it now as a public and as players and we all want more," said Neill.

"The way to do that is by (taking it) game by game and make sure it's business as usual, to give ourselves an opportunity to go to a third World Cup.

"I think it'd be a waste having been to two if we somehow stumbled now and didn't perform at our best to give ourselves a chance to go to another one."
