While it was widely reported last week that Bresciano was set to move to Saudi Arabia to play under his former boss at Palermo Walter Zenga, the player himself has denied any deal has been done and said he wants to sign to a new club before the World Cup.

"That deal won't be going through", he said in Melbourne today. "Things have been said in the papers that aren't true.

"I'm still a free agent. I'm just concentrating on the World Cup and hopefully I'll stay in Europe."

Bresciano admitted he had been to Saudi Arabia to discuss terms with Zenga, but he felt it wasn't the right time to move to the Middle East.

"He (Zenga) was very keen on me going over there," he said. "That's the link. I was on the phone to him a lot and he was trying to get me there at all costs.

"It got close but it's not the right move for me at the moment. I'd love to stay in Italy, but that may be very hard. I want to still challenge myself, so stay in Europe somewhere and play in a tough league."

Bresciano has spent several months on the outer at Serie A club Palermo and said it was not an option for him to return to the club where he has played since 2006.

Two years ago he was set for a move to Manchester City, but that fell through. However the English Premier League is not top of his list of preferred destinations.

"Not as much as what it was a couple of years ago," said the Socceroo. "A couple of years ago I was dying to get there just to have a different experience.

"There's other leagues that I'm still interested in and would like to play in. I guess I have to see what clubs are available. Anywhere in Europe at a decent club where they play football."

The former Empoli and Parma midfielder would like his club future resolved ahead of the World Cup, but if that should not happen, he sees South Africa as a great stage to show that he still has the talent at 30.

"Personally I'd like to have it sorted before the World Cup starts, but I guess it's a massive window, anything can happen," he said. "If I have a decent World Cup and it could be positive."

Bresciano is back in full training after a series of injury setbacks over the past 12 months and said that while he has not played a competitive game in nearly three months, he will be fit and ready for the Socceroos farewell game against New Zealand at the MCG on Monday.

He added: "I'm very good now, I'm in to full training for hopefully the whole week now and hopefully play Monday night.

"I feel good, I've done a good rehab. Things are going good and everything has gone to plan."
