THE search continues for the Team of the Year in the Australian Football Awards and the nominations are streaming through with words like united, inspirational, passionate, loyal, sparky, magic and mates used to describe some of the top contenders.
"Football is extremely popular winter sport in Australia and as a result some great nominations for Team of the Year have been received," said FFA CEO Ben Buckley.
"But we know there are even more teams around Australia who deserve to be considered and recognised and we want to hear about them," he said.
Here's a glimpse of some nominations:
Ravens, NSW: The quality of football played is sublime and crowd entertainment is paramount. Goals are frequent at both ends.
Surfside, Victoria: At the start of the season the side were considered easy beats with some significant scores against them. The side throughout the year played together as a team. They just loved to play win, lose or draw!
Rangers U15/2W, NSW: The girls are keen and supportive both of one another and of the team itself. They lap up any extra coaching they can get and work hard into the night to learn as much as they can about the game.
Rochedale U12 Division 1, Queensland: The team digs deep if they happen to be down on the score board by using team work. Last year they took home Premiership and Grand Final title.
The Team of the Year winner will be announced at the Australian Football Awards Gala Dinner on 11 June in Sydney. The winning team will be invited to attend the Gala Dinner, which will also include the Qantas Socceroos, as guests of FFA.
