SOCCEROOS coach Pim Verbeek has given former Newcastle Jets skipper Jade North permission to leave the Australian camp to pursue a transfer to Norwegian Tippeligaen club Tromso.
North was in the Socceroos training camp on the Gold Coast preparing for next Wedmesday's big Asian Cup qualifying clash with Indonesia, but he will now head to Norway for a medical as he looks to complete a transfer from K-League club Incheon United.
North had consulted Verbeek throughout the transfer process, the Dutchman understanding why North had to leave camp early.
"I am very happy for Jade to find another club and it appears to be the right time to leave Korea so he can give himself the best chance to be selected for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa," Verbeek said.
"He is going to play in a very difficult league and if he can play regular football he will be much better off.
As a result of North's departure, Verbeek has called up Adelaide United defender Robert Cornthwaite. Cornthwaite made his debut for the Qantas Socceroos in the AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualifier against Kuwait in Canberra last year.
The Socceroos drew 0-0 with Indonesia the last time they clashed in the opening match of the AFC Asian Qualifiers in Jakarta in January 2009.
Australia are currently placed in second position on the Group B points table behind Kuwait on the number of goals scored and will need a draw or a win against Indonesia to qualify for the Asian Cup which will be held in Qatar in January 2011.
In the other group B match, Oman will need a win if they are to qualify when they host Kuwait in Muscat on Wednesday 3 March.
