The defender has been tipped for one of the three over-age slots in the 18-strong squad but the 26-year-old insists he is none the wiser at this late stage.

North has cemented a place as an established Socceroo during the last few months and has made a big impression on Pim Verbeek.

The focus now is on the Olyroos as the countdown to Beijing really kicks in. Arnold will announce his squad tomorrow and three senior figures are expected to be included.

Harry Kewell and Mark Schwarzer are both likely to miss out but North's name along with that of Melbourne Victory's Archie Thompson has been thrown into the mix.

Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com today North said: "I'm just waiting along with everyone else to be honest. I'm not sure which of the senior boys Arnie is looking at.

"If he wants me then of course I'd love to be part of the Olympics. It's a big honour.

"But for me, it all comes down to adding players in the areas he thinks might need strengthening.

"I don't think just throwing in a 'big name' if you like, is what it's about. I'm sure that's what Arnie is weighing up now, who could most benefit the squad he's got."

If he does get the nod it be the defender's second taste of the Games. He played all four games during the 2004 tournament in Athens where Australia were eventually beaten 1-0 by Iraq in the quarter-finals.

North is now back training with Newcastle Jets after a week's break although a knock is expected to keep him out of tonight's trial game against Broadmeadow Magic.

He said: "I had a few days off but to be honest I feel fine mate. It's good to be back with the boys again."
