SOCCEROOS central defender Jade North is poised to sign a contract with Japanese second tier club FC Tokyo today after a successful trial with the capital club.
North, 29, had been on trial at Tokyo when the recent earthquake and ensuing tsunami hit Japan, forcing him to flee back to Australia.
But the Australian defender is now on the verge of sealing his deal with Tokyo, who were relegated from the J.League last season.
"It's been a dream for me to play in Japan and I'm glad that I will have a new challenge," North said in a written statement.
"As a football player, I want to use my experiences and I will do my best to help FC Tokyo win and return to the first division."
North, who has 34 caps for Australia, recently played in the A-League with Wellington Phoenix.
The J2.League is scheduled to resume later this month, with Tokyo to face Mark Milligan's JEF United on April 24.
